Why Coonabarabran?

Might be a hard place to pronounce, but it’s an easy place to live. Affectionally referred to as Coona, it sits on the divide between the Central West and Northwest Slopes of regional NSW. Its name is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning ‘inquisitive person” and has that old fashioned country charm that is so welcoming.

As of 2021 the Coona population was 3,477

Best Bits and Highlights:

It’s known as an ideal place for stargazing because the air is so clean and pristine.  It sits on the edge of the Warrumbungle National Park, which was officially recognised as the International Dark Sky Park in 2016- a first for Australia – Go Coona!  It even has its own observatory! There is a lot of Australian history dating back to the early 1800’s. It’s got great old pubs and friendly people. You’ll feel right at home.

Subtropical climate with hot summers and cool winters. You’ll dance in the summer rain and learn to love open fires and beanies in winter. It has clearly defined seasons which makes a nice change and plenty of insta worthy photos.

Being the gateway to the spectacular Warrumbungle mountain range and for totally owning the crown as the Astronomy Capital of Australia.
